Welcome to the Neighborhood. The neighborhood being the Athens, Georgia area. Athens is about 45 minutes north and east of Atlanta. Situated between the mountains to the north and the piedmont to the south, its climate is moderate year round. Athens is home to the University of Georgia, which boasts an enrollment of 30,000 and is the flagship institution of the University System of Georgia. Athens is, without a doubt, a college town; but there’s much more to the city than meets the eye. It has a vibrant music scene, having birthed both REM and the B-52’s. It’s cultural heritage owes much to the University, which was founded in 1785, and the larger southern cultural influence. This area has been my home since 1988.
